Our laying hens live in a house on wheels that we move regularly to fresh pasture. They produce marvelous multicolored eggs (about 30 dozen a week in season), and fertilize the pastures, too!
Our laying flock includes dual-purpose heritage breeds (Rhode Island Red, Speckled Sussex, Barred Rock and Auracana), and our own farm-bred and farm-raised chickens.
Ben, one of our livestock guardian dogs, guards the chickens and keeps them safe from foxes and coyotes.
