We have decided to grow more edible and decorative winter squash than pumpkins this year. We have selected varieties that are resistant to powdery mildew and squash vine borers- our two main production problems. Many of the varieties we will grow are Heirlooms that are well suited to our Northern Piedmont location. We will be planting 20 varieties of winter squash and pumpkins during May and June and will begin our harvest in September.
